Zelenskyy commented, "It's evident that Russia is rushing to resume conversations as soon as it learns of Tomahawks." These remarks addressed recent comments about providing advanced weapons to Ukraine.

Political Developments and International Reactions

An ex- US state department official, Dan Fried, commented, "The Russian leader is trying to disrupt the progress toward increased pressure on the Kremlin." He added, "We'll see tomorrow, but the likelihood of moving toward a ceasefire by pushing Moscow to get serious seem to have diminished."

The development followed Trump had recently been hardening his rhetoric toward Moscow until the recent call with Putin, which the Russian government described as "highly open and constructive."

EU Fuel Sanctions and Market Impact

The European Union have set a requirement for energy importers into the European Union to prove their fuels are not sourced from Russian crude, as stated in a official guideline released on recently. This step is part of the European Union's upcoming ban on purchases of fuels processed from Russian petroleum, which forms part of its latest restrictive measures against Moscow over its war in the region.

Financial experts noted that investment activity appeared to be factoring in the possible end of India's purchases of Russian oil. Some oil processors in India are getting ready to cut purchases from Russia, with projections of a phased decrease, as reported by insiders familiar with the matter.

"This is a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would remove a big customer of Russian crude," commented a market analyst, noting that oil prices were steady on Thursday.

Security Developments and Energy Attacks

A massive Moscow's unmanned aircraft and rocket assault targeted gas facilities in eastern Ukraine on the same day, resulting in disruptions in eight regions. Ukrainian officials reported that Russia deployed numerous of unmanned vehicles and dozens of projectiles, along with aerial munitions.

"During this fall, the Russian forces use daily opportunities to strike at our power facilities," said Ukraine's president, noting that strikes impacted the areas of northern Ukraine, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy and western Ukraine.

International Political Reactions

Kyiv's representative to the United States, the Ukrainian ambassador, asserted that Moscow showed its true approach to peace through the "violence" of such strikes. "Russia yet again opted for weapons over dialogue, making this attack into a direct setback to ongoing peace efforts," she said.

At the same time, the European Union's foreign policy chief, the bloc's representative, stated that the European Union had little option but to strengthen anti-drone defences against Russian threats. She revealed a "plan" to get ready for potential security challenges by 2030, including a new defensive network to be completely functional by the end of 2027.

This initiative, dubbed the "European drone defence initiative," is expected to begin working in its first phase by the 2026 timeline and be fully functioning by the following year. EU authorities aims to secure the support of EU leaders at a meeting in the coming days.
