The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for Mammon in Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation about the fallen TV preacher and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield acts as the greedy Jim, who declares initially, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye set about profiting from the nation's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, bad makeup and bad faith, however Jessica Chastain manages to depict Tammy Faye with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, early morning, Film4
