Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms impacted the state, producing strong winds topping 109km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Impact

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as 7cm in certain regions. Weather authorities announced that various areas across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Response teams were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to address the widespread outages.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, nearly one thousand energy customers in the southern state also faced electricity disruptions after the capital city recorded its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 requests for assistance across the state, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham - nearly 180 calls for assistance

During the peak on the previous day, over 28,000 energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued thunderstorm potential expected across multiple regions of both areas.

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
